The Value of Worship
Sitting on the rows of chairs lined up parallel around the edges of the stage are people who seem to be strangers and yet they are a uniformly spread out with look of a slightly saddened face and glinting eyes that one might find in seekers of God. A singer bobs her head to the rhythm of the music and the guitarist has a kind of remote expression due to his small eyes but he smiles at certain iteration of words like “joy”, “hope” and “dream.” One little girl sitting up front raises her hands upwards showing her palms closing her eyes, immersing herself into the flow of worship. Camera scans with sweeping view across the congregation and the whole scene is so moving. Everyone sits and stands with different poses and postures but it is clear even to the eyes of a stranger that the crowd is praising and praying as they are singing with words like “you are my strength”, “my dream,” and “my only hope.”
Whether their individual heart in this act is true to the purpose of worship is unknowable and is not the business between them and I. However, one thing is certainly true; this is a Spirit-filled worship. A group of people gathered together to worship are in the midst of a presence which is holy and so beautiful that their music or their actions do not matter any more. The videotaped scene is able to capture the holiness that filled the space between each individual person and every gap of the rows of wide-extended chairs. These people are not strangers anymore. They are one. They are united in worship.

무대 가장자리를 따라 나란히 늘어선 의자들, 그 위에 사람들이 앉아 있는데, 서로를 모르는 것처럼 보이지만 약간 슬픈 얼굴과 반짝이는 눈들이 균일하게 펼쳐져 있습니다. 음악의 리듬에 맞춰 고개를 끄덕이는 가수와 작은 눈 때문에 다소 어색한 표정을 짓고 있는 기타리스트는 "기쁨", "희망", "꿈"과 같은 단어가 반복되는 순간순간 마다 미소를 짓습니다. 앞에 앉아 있던 한 어린 소녀가 손을 위로 들어 손바닥을 보이게 하고 눈을 감고 예배의 흐름에 집중합니다. 회중을 가로지르는 카메라가 장면 전체의 감동을 담아냅니다. 다양한 포즈와 자세를 취하고 있는 모든 사람들이 "당신은 나의 힘입니다”, “나의 꿈입니다”, "나의 유일한 소망입니다"와 같은 단어로 노래를 부르면서 군중들이 찬양하고 기도하는 모습은 예배를 모르는 낯선 사람의 눈에도 선명합니다.
이 행위에서 그들의 개인적인 마음이 예배의 목적에 진실되게 임했는지는 알수 없지만, 그것은 그들과 나 사이의 일이 아닙니다. 그러나 한 가지는 확실히 사실이 있습니다. 그것은 이 장면이 성령으로 가득 찬 예배라는 것입니다. 예배를 드리기 위해 모인 이 무리의 가운데에는 그들의 음악이나 행동이 더 이상 중요하지 않을 정도로 거룩하고 아름다운 존재가 임하였습니다. 겨우 비디오로 촬영된 장면이지만 각 사람과 사람 사이의 공간, 긴 의자들 사이의 모든 틈을 메운 거룩함을 포착하고도 남습니다. 이 사람들은 더이상 서로에게 낯선 이들이 아닙니다. 그들은 하나입니다. 그들은 예배 안에서 하나가 됩니다.
